Talk:Main Page
Ouch! Vandalism! And right when I have to go out to eat! >_< I'll be back to fix the damage. Until then, I'm clearing the main page. Traveler of Game Worlds 01:36, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed, and banned the sucker for good measure. Zoinker 02:31, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- Right off the bat, can I say "I love you"? XD I am in favor in locking the main page from editing (if possible). Because, really, why does anybody need to edit the main page now since it takes care of itself in the random image and article sections? Plus, if there is any big news, you could post it. Traveler of Game Worlds 02:46, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
- I'm rather uncomfortable about locking the main page except as a last resort. I personally prefer any of us being able to add to the main page rather than having to go through me whenever a change is necessary. It's better to wait until we got more contributors and a few more admins. But if this happens again I might change my mind about this. Zoinker 16:55, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Moved over from Forum:The main page
I'm going to put the main page through a major overhaul over the weekend, including changes to the overall color scheme of the wiki. I was considering adding an index and maybe some other things, but I want to see whether you guys have any ideas or opinions first. As for the color scheme, I was thinking about white and blue on a black background to match the Desoto, but any input is welcome. Zoinker 22:10, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
- It sounds awesome to me. It's been looking too plain for too long. ^^ Traveler of Game Worlds 03:21, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
I made a preliminary design in my User:Zoinker/sandbox. It's far from finished; I haven't worked on the color scheme yet and I don't understand where that contents box came from. The headers also might need some work (Maybe I should make them templates instead). Finally, I haven't fully decided on the contents of each box. Any input and ideas would be very welcome. [edit] Main Page Revealed
I just unleashed the new Main Page design. It's not quite finished yet, but I like to think of it as an improvement. Many of the links on it are still red though. I'm not sure whether to make special index pages for each of them or just link to the categories (I'll probably just do the latter eventually) but having some kind of an index would help keep this wiki organized. I also changed the skin to Monaco:Sapphire. I was having trouble making a custom skin that would actually show up so I changed it to a somewhat better preset rather than the orange monstrosity we've had to endure until now. Any input and ideas are more than welcome. Also, feel free to make any adjustments you feel are necessary. Zoinker 00:56, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bump
So how about this?
- Sorry for not noticing this sooner. I think this is a good time to talk about that, and that's why I've put up a first stab at a Manual of Style page. Add your suggestion there and let's discuss it in the forum thread I've started on it. Harald B 20:58, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] lol
you spelt February wrong on the main page. You spelt it Februari. {{User:TheHighway/sig}} 11:28, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ouch!! I'll go correct that. (By the way, it's only semi-protected so you could have corrected it yourself.) --Harald B 08:30, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- i didnt know that. too much overprotected hrwiki. anyway, you fixed it, so thats all that matters. {{User:TheHighway/sig}} 11:28, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Cancelled games
I think the two cancelled games listed on the main page should be in brackets or something to distinguish them from the others.
[edit] New Character Screenshots?
Should we start uploading new screenshots of Grampa Stinky's, Harry Moleman's, etc's new, more detailed designs from The Devil's Playhouse? Afterall, it's likely this is how they're going to appear from now on in the Telltale games. Lombre 18:18, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- I suppose it wouldn't hurt, and would look a bit better, so sure why not (just make sure the new shots look at least as good as the existing ones). For most of them we can just upload over the old files, though for Harry Moleman I'd prefer to keep the existing shot in the Ted E. Bear suit as well. I think it looks nice there and it'll be interesting to show the difference the suit makes. (I imagine putting the new shot to the left of the second paragraph in Character Detail.) Harald B 18:35, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- I was actually thinking the same thing for Harry Moleman. I'll go ahead and do that. Lombre 18:44, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
I uploaded Harry Moleman, Grandpa Stinky, and Superball. I know the quality on the Superball one isn't the greatest, but I wasn't able to replace the previous JPEG with a PNG. Lombre 19:21, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- Good work, thanks. If you've got a better quality PNG handy, feel free to upload it. I can just delete the JPEG afterwards. Oh and while these are fine, I think the Stinky one would work better in a slightly higher res if you've got that lying around. Harald B 21:09, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
- I don't have a higher res of Stinky (curse my lack of save files from when he was at the diner!), though I did manage to get a full-body PNG of Superball. Though, upon closer inspection, seems the low quality was more film-grain and less JPEG. I'll go ahead and upload it, though. Lombre 23:12, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Vandals!
We have just had one of the worst cases of vandalism I have ever seen. And, most importantly, it mostly made the whole page completely blue. If they had done this to the main page, we would be in some deep &%#$. I feel that it is necessary to protect the main page from editing, so at least we always have one "safe point" in case of a massive vandal attach again. Thoughts? The Highway 14:33, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- That would probably be for the best. I don't like the way they managed to make most of the sidebar disappear. If vandals find out a way to do that to the top bar, things would get a lot harder to undo. --Harald B 15:52, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly. So, we are protecting? The Highway 04:48, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
- Indeed. Done and done. --Harald B 07:19, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Spam Precautions
I don't like having to suggest this, but we need to stop the violent outbreaks of spam we're getting. I say that we prevent anonymous users from editing pages or making pages, and I don't know what we'll do about the ones that make accounts. The Highway 08:45, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- It's getting more and more out of hand, that's for sure. But since the ones making the pages are using the images uploaded by the ones with accounts, I think they're the same bots (so restricting anonymous users won't do any good). I'll ask David about improving the Captcha system. I'm not sure what else I can do, except maybe add another admin if it gets worse. --Harald B 10:29, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
[edit] A spam precaution I have seen elsewhere...
...is to add a question, such as "What is the name of the rabbit/lagomorph?" and users have to type "max". This is on a forum I admin and it works incredibly well. Could we look at adding this to the wiki? The Highway 11:52, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
