Sam & Max Wiki:About
WELCOME TO THE SAM & MAX WIKI!!
 What's this wiki about?
- See also: Sam & Max (franchise)
This wiki aspires to be the number one unofficial database about the world's most favorite Dog and Lagomorph Crime-Stomping duo; the Freelance Police! Sam and Max were originally created as the stars of an independent comic series by Steve Purcell, wherein they thwarted evil villains, apprehended dangerous criminals and dispensed their own brand of freelance justice in the most violently hilarious way possible. The comics eventually spawned a game, Sam & Max Hit the Road, and their own animated series, The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police. Most recently they have starred in another brand new episodic video game series by Telltale Games, with two seasons out to date.
Sounds good, but what can I do to help?
The to-do list keeps track of the things we're looking for most at any given time. Also, if you see a red link you can click on it and create an article on it's subject. If you want to see what articles need to be expanded, you can check the Article Stubs category. Finally, check the Recent Changes page to see what articles are currently being worked on. Chances are they might need some extra help. But before you start editing, we heavily recommend you sign up for a unique user name. It's free, and it helps you keep track of your edits better, as well as allowing you to participate more closely with the community here.
 History of the wiki
The Sam & Max Wiki was originally started as a Wikia project late 2006. It was abandoned almost instantly, and had only 10 articles even by August 2008. Then in September the abandoned wiki was noticed at Telltale's Sam & Max forums and a couple of users got together and adopted it. Soon more people followed and the wiki started to flourish. By the end of 2008, it had over 180 articles, hundreds of images, and a nice logo and skin recolor.
Wikia was a nice enough place to be at, but hardly ideal. By the end of the year several editors voiced concerns about the for-profit nature of Wikia and the significant amount of advertising involved. As luck would have it, they noticed the intentions of samandmax.net around this time.
Back in July the people behind samandmax.net had mentioned their intent to put up a Sam & Max wiki of their own, an idea put on hold largely because the one at Wikia was doing well. It was agreed that it would be a good idea to suggest moving the wiki to samandmax.net, and contact was made. The response was favorable and further edits were largely postponed pending the move, which unfortunately would take a while for various reasons.
Then, in 2009, the Sam & Max Wiki finally had its grand reopening.
